“Only 1 more day!” Molly cheered as the buses were leaving. I took a deep breath. It was February 28th and the Slice of Life Challenge would start tomorrow.
“I feel like overloaded,” I told Molly, “I’m not sure if I can add 1 more thing to my plate.”
Molly’s the one who encouraged me to start blogging in the SOL challenge 3 years ago, but for some reason these next 31 days seem like a bigger hurdle than before. I explained to her that I feel like I am so busy! I’ve been reading so much lately, the most I’ve ever read in my life! I am going to yoga 2-3 times per week and I’m in the middle of my Master’s Degree. Teaching seems to take up so much of my time. Can I make it 31 days?
She then gave me such good advice that her husband gave her. He said, “you only get $1 per day. How will you spend it?” She explained that if we spend 80 cents on work then you don’t have much left for yourself.
I went home thinking about this. I feel like I’m moving at 100mph at school and working so hard. How much am I really spending on my work life? Do I have enough balance in my life? Am I doing things for me? Maybe I can afford to not strive for perfection all the time. Surely I don’t need to spend all of my dollar on school. I can still do a great job, but I can also say YES to all of the things that will give me balance and joy. So I say YES to yoga. YES to reading, a tired yes to graduate school work, and 1 more YES to blogging and the SOL challenge!
Here we go!
