Meeting an Author

It’s rare that I buy a hardcover book. When I saw that Chloe Benjamin was coming to town, I knew I had to do it. I think I read her new book, The Immortalists, faster than I’ve read any other.

Yesterday about 50 of us gathered in a local bookstore and marveled at how articulate she was. She was interviewed by Richard Russo and gave us a deeper understanding of her book and answered many of the why’s and how’s that were bouncing around in my head.

I can’t believe she has written 2 poignant novels and she’s younger than me. She described how she came up with the idea, how much research she did, and what events in her own life influenced the creation of her characters. Meeting an author makes me say, wow.

After I got my copy signed, I immediately changed my rating on Goodreads from 4 to 5 stars. It’s mostly because of what she wrote on the inside cover.

This book is all about mortality, prophecy, and fate. Her comment fits perfectly!

  1. I’ll have to put this one on my TBR list. I always find it fascinating to listen to authors talk about their work, and I love that Richard Russo interviewed her. That’s a win-win, for sure!
