SOLC Day 29: Early Planting

On March 12th, we tried an experiment. We cut open milk gallons and planted some cold weather seeds. We put them out in the sun, but hoping the plastic would be enough insulation. We checked every day, hoping we would see the little sprouts pushing their way up.

On March 24th, we did! When my son peered in after school, he started jumping up and down!

Here comes the lettuce, strong as ever. It sprouted despite a snowstorm, and below freezing temperatures at night!

Yesterday, on March 28th, the lettuce still marches on, getting bigger by the day!

The garden is not yet ready and our yard is still mostly covered in snow. But we will have an early harvest, that will fill our souls with the promise of warmer weather.

Salad anyone?
